Dental Bridges & Partials

Fixed bridges and removable partials to close a gap — without surgery.

Who it's for:One or several missing teeth in a row, especially when surgery is not wanted or the neighbouring teeth already need crowns.

Overview

A fixed bridge replaces a missing tooth by crowning the teeth on either side and suspending a replacement tooth between them. It needs no surgery and is usually finished in two to three weeks, which is why patients who cannot or do not want to have an implant placed often choose it. The trade-off is that the two neighbouring teeth must be reduced for crowns, and the bone under the gap continues to shrink because nothing transmits chewing force into it.

A removable partial denture — what many patients call a "removable bridge" — replaces several teeth on a cast framework you take out to clean. It is the least expensive way to replace multiple teeth and needs no work on the neighbouring teeth, but it is less stable when chewing than anything fixed. Denvida walks through fixed bridge, removable partial and implant side by side with the actual numbers for your case rather than steering to one answer.

Options & Types

Fixed three-unit bridge

Two crowned neighbouring teeth carry one replacement tooth. Cemented in place — you do not take it out.

Removable partial denture

A cast framework replacing several teeth across the arch, taken out for cleaning. No crowns needed on the neighbours.

Implant-supported bridge

Implants carry the bridge instead of your natural teeth — no healthy teeth are reduced, and the bone is preserved.

The Process

  1. 1

    Free consult + 3D scan

We check the teeth beside the gap, take a CBCT scan and lay out bridge, partial and implant side by side with costs.

  2. 2

    Preparation & digital scan

For a fixed bridge the two supporting teeth are shaped under local anesthesia and scanned; a temporary bridge covers them meanwhile.

  3. 3

    Lab fabrication

The bridge or partial framework is made to the scan and shade — usually two to three weeks.

  4. 4

    Fit & bite adjustment

The bridge is cemented or the partial is fitted, the bite is adjusted, and we go through how to clean under it.

Cost & Financing

ProcedureBay Area rangeDenvida
Fixed bridge (3-unit)$2,000–$5,000written estimate
Removable partial denture (per arch)$1,500–$3,000written estimate
Single implant, for comparison$4,500–$6,500from $3,500

Ranges are Bay Area market references, not quotes. Bridges and partials are usually covered as major restorative at around 50% by PPO plans, unlike implants on some plans — worth checking before you choose. Denvida gives a detailed written estimate before treatment and is in-network with Delta Dental & Cigna; financing available.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dental bridge cost in San Mateo?

A fixed three-unit bridge in San Mateo typically costs $2,000–$5,000 at market rates, and a removable partial denture $1,500–$3,000 per arch. A single implant is $4,500–$6,500 but lasts longer, so the cheaper option up front is not always cheaper over 20 years. Denvida gives a free consultation with a written estimate.

What is a removable bridge?

"Removable bridge" usually means a removable partial denture — a replacement for several teeth on a framework you take out to clean, held by clasps on the remaining teeth. A true dental bridge is fixed: it is cemented onto crowned neighbouring teeth and does not come out. Partials cost less and need no work on the neighbours, but are less stable when chewing.

Is a bridge or an implant better?

For a single missing tooth in a healthy patient, an implant is usually the better long-term choice: it lasts 20+ years, preserves bone, and leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched, whereas a bridge grinds down two healthy teeth and lasts about 10–15 years. A bridge is often the right call when those neighbours already need crowns, when surgery must be avoided, or when treatment has to be finished in weeks rather than months.

How long does a dental bridge last?

A fixed bridge typically lasts 10–15 years before it needs replacing. Its lifespan depends mostly on the two supporting teeth staying healthy — decay under a crown margin is the usual reason a bridge fails. Cleaning under the bridge with a floss threader or interdental brush every day makes the biggest difference.
